This module is designed to give the new employee an overview of the philosophy of patient care in an ophthalmic practice. The discussion provides an introduction to customer service, communication skills, teamwork, and medical/social ethics required to deliver quality patient care.

This module is designed to introduce you to the anatomy of the eye. Information includes the structure and function of the eye and its component parts, as well as eye terminology. More detailed instruction regarding patient exams, testing, eye disorders, and surgical procedures is provided in subsequent modules.

An explanation of patient flow in the clinic and ASC is also provided.

The patient experience in an ophthalmic practice is illustrated in this module. Beginning with telephone interactions and appointment making with patients, the processes utilized by the practice to prepare for the patient encounter are described. Also included in the discussion are patient check-in, patient flow, and check-out.

This module illustrates the clinical aspects of a patient exam. Descriptions of the patient's experience through the technician work-up, physician exam and recommendations, and additional testing procedures will be given to provide a basic understanding of the details of the exam experience.
