For the dispensing optician, a thorough understanding of the regulations and requirements of Medicare -- and correctly applying that knowledge throughout the Medicare patient/recipient encounter -- is an important and crucial responsibility. This course outlines the key Medicare compliance requirements for the participating provider of optical goods. The main areas covered in this course are:

• Eligibility
• Coverage
• Coding
• Modifiers
• Waivers
• Billing

Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of:

• Patient eligibility requirements.
• Covered and non-covered items or products that apply to Medicare recipients.
• Medicare HCPCS V-codes and how to identify the correct code for each item or product supplied.
• The meanings and usage of all pertinent modifiers.
• The various waivers and signature needs relevant to Medicare-required documentation.
• The procedures for billing and filing claims for reimbursement.

This module will take approximately 2 hours to complete and consistsof 24 pages.
