This course is designed for the eyecare employee as a general overview of contact lenses and the importance of patient education with respect to wearing contact lenses. The course addresses: The evolution of contact lens designs; identifying candidates; review of a contact lens prescription; dispensing of contact lenses; insertion and removal procedures; care and cleaning; maintenance; recommendations and warnings for patients; and recommending back-up eyeglasses.
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Describe the various contact lens options and understand how each is designed to accommodate different patient requirements and visual corrections.
- Describe how a patient’s personal and medical profile is essential in the determination of a good contact lens candidate.
- Identify the information required for a contact lens prescription.
- Understand the necessity for follow-up consults after contact lenses are dispensed.
- Understand the anatomy of a comprehensive training session for contact lens wearers.
- Understand the importance of patient compliance and the possible implications of non-compliance.
